We all want to be successful even those who are already wealthy. For example, who would have thought that a billionaire would bother to get involved in politics to the point of running for Presidency! And as we all know very successful people are winners and of course he won the election. YEA!
According to the Forbes 2016 rich list there are 1810 billionaires in the world and of course America top the list of countries with the most billionaires. And according to some internet sources the middle-class population of India is nearly 300 million which is roughly the same as the entire population of America (USA). It would appear then that it is possible to grow wealth wherever you are; whether you live in a rich country or a poor country.
Several individuals have put forward principles or techniques which they believed people can use to become more successful. And there are several examples of successful application of these principles. So, let’s look at 5 of them:
1. Visualize your goal
The internet is awash with information on this principle but basically it involves forming a mental picture of your desired goal. This sounds very simple and we probably all do it at some time or the other without even realizing it. But it is based on the fact that we first think about something then go on to do what we thought about. In other word everything has its origin in the mind; either in the mind of man or in the mind of God. If you can think of something that did not come from some mind somewhere just leave it in the comment box below so we can all know about it.
In her book “Your Invisible Power” Genevieve Behrend said: “Everyone visualizes whether he knows it or not. Visualizing is the great secret of success.” Another word for visualization is imagination, so if we think about it seriously then one would wonder why is it that people possess this ability to imagine things. It must be for a reason and as Genevieve said in her book “we all possess more power and greater possibilities than we realize, and visualizing is one of the greatest of these powers”.
Is thought really a principle? And can thinking the right thoughts help us to become more successful? Well one of the best-selling books of all times has this tittle: Think and Grow Rich. Yes, it is the same one written by Napoleon Hill and he did make a considerable sum in his time. Another famous personality who is literally worshiped by billions of people worldwide also said something similar. He said, “as a man thinketh in his heart so is he”. Now does this mean if you think you are rich and successful then you are rich or will become rich and if you think you are poor then you are poor? Some might say it is safer to think the latter that way you won’t need to worry about anything you are what you are and that’s it.
Wallace D Wattles in his famous book “The science of getting rich” had this to say about thoughts: “Thought is the only power which can produce tangible riches from the Formless Substance.” Wallace maintained that there is a thinking substance (Formless Substance) from which all things are made and that a thought in this substance produce the thing that is imaged by the thought.
Thought therefore is a very powerful tool and through it we can change the course of our lives to one of wealth and success. It appears that we attract to ourselves the things that we think about on a regular basis even if we do not specifically want them. It appears also that we are what we think of ourselves or what we think we are. This leads us to the next principle.
3. The Law of attraction
The law of attraction is probably the most popular of all the principles used to gather wealth. There are tonnes of Youtube videos on this single principle. Essentially this law states that we naturally attract to ourselves the things that we habitually think about. Thoughts or positive thinking and visualization are therefore different aspect of this principle.
The law of attraction is fully described in physics in its various forms under such headings as gravity, centripetal force and other forces. All description of forces in one form or another in physics is in reality referring to the universal law of attraction. These forces have been described extensively and quantified using mathematical formulae and as such no one doubts their existence and validity.
The application of the law of attraction to thoughts or mental science has not really received the benefit or attention of official scientific investigation. For example, there is no mathematical formula describing the extent to which two thoughts attract each other. We know, though, that there is some degree of attraction taking place and this knowledge has been expressed in common expressions such as: “birds of a feather flock together”, ”be careful what you wish for”, and “as a man thinketh so is he”.
According to Charles Haanel (1866-1949) “the predominant thought or the mental attitude is the magnet, and the law is that like attracts like, consequently, the mental attitude will invariably attract such conditions as correspond to its nature.”
The law of attraction is a real force to work with in the pursuit of your goals. Genevieve Behrend (1881 – 1960) devotes an entire chapter of her book to describe how she attracted to herself $20,000.00. This was a considerable sum in her time.
Our final quote on attraction comes from Bob Proctor where he is quoted in The Secret as saying “See yourself living in abundance and you will attract it. It works every time, with every person.”
The importance of expressing thanks and appreciation for acts of kindness cannot be over emphasized. But can gratitude or being grateful help us to be more successful? There are many stories that would suggest that it can indeed influence our success in life. You only need to look no further than yourself when considering this principle. For example, would you seriously continue to be kind to someone who openly or even discreetly shows no form of thankfulness for an act of kindness that you extended to them? Most likely you wouldn’t, but you should. The thing is the majority people around would be less likely to continue being kind to someone who does not appreciate it. On the other hand, if you show appreciation for an act of kindness you are likely to receive more expressions of kindness. And this validates the law of attraction that we discussed above, as by being grateful for what you receive you are likely to receive more of it or more acts of kindness. This truth was illustrated in a parable given by the great teacher himself and to refresh your memory we will recount it here:
According to our great teacher; a certain master gave out talents to his servants, he apparently gave one servant 5 talents and to another he gave 4. He also gave 3 talents to one of his servant and to another he gave only 1 talent. Well according to the story, the servant who received only 1 talent was extremely unhappy. He did not appreciate this gift and thought that his master was mean and unkind to only give him just 1 talent. He therefore did not do anything with his talent in fact according to the story he went and hide the talent. The other servants however invested their talents and multiplied them. As a result, the master was quite please, with these servants who went out and made good and effective use of their talents. The servant who hid his one talent and did not put it to any use at all made the master very angry and upset. He did not appreciate the gift that the master gave to him and so the master promptly took it back from him and gave it to the one who had actually received 5 talents.
So now we know why some people are lucky and wealthy and some are not. Those who seem to be lucky recognize the opportunities that they have and make good use of it. They are thankful for what they have, and they make good use of it. The unlucky ones on the other hand do not appreciate what they have. They are not thankful, and so they tend to lose whatever they have and end up blaming others for their misfortunes. The law that we are to follow therefore to increase our good fortune and therefore our wealth is to just simply be thankful.
In his book “the science of getting rich” Wallace D Wattles devotes an entire chapter to gratitude. There is therefore a lot more that could be said about this principle and if you want to know more either gain access to the other section of this site or simple go on Youtube.
By that I mean kindness. How can you be in desperate need and is expected to be kind and be grateful in order to lift yourself out of desperation? Be kind with what? Be grateful for what? How can giving increase my wealth? If things are so bad for me that I feel that I am desperately in need of a change of luck, then certainly I can’t be expected to be giving away anything. The truth of the matter however, is that it is acts of kindness that will change our luck for ever. We have heard it said that the more we give is the more we receive. And in religious circles it is said that it is more blessed to give than to receive.
Continuing, on the religious note, how many of you remember the nursery rhyme or maybe it was a song which went like this: “Joy is something if you give it away it comes right back to you” and this was repeated replacing Joy, with Love and Peace but from what I can remember, and I might be wrong, none of these words were ever replaced with money! If I am wrong please correct me in the comment box below but I can’t remember singing something like “money is something if you give it away, if you give it away it comes right back to you”. If you remember, please tell me.
Now even though they did not teach us to sing about money, I want you to know that it is true for money, joy, peace, love and everything else. Whatever you give away comes right back to you. Whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap. Most people only interpret this in the negative sense and forget about the positive side. But the principle holds true for positive actions as well.
The best thing to do is not to focus on avoiding doing evil but to focus on doing good instead. In other words, give away the very same thing that you want in your life. Another way of putting it is to do unto others as you would have them do for you. We all know about this it is just that we have been taught to look at it from a negative prospective. When we hear things like “what goes around comes around” we think of something negative, but it applies to good deeds as well and most importantly it applies to money too. So, if you want more money and more success start giving away what you already have. Smile at the world and it will smile back at you… and you know the rest.
